Delaware Asian Culture Enthusiasts (DACE) Frequently Asked Questions
What is Delaware Asian Culture Enthusiasts (DACE)?:
Delaware Asian Culture Enthusiasts (DACE) is a club for anime fans in and around the state of Delaware. We offer a place to meet people who share similar interest in anime, cosplay, Japanese culture, video games, and things like that.
Did you change your name? What about your URL?:
After months of polling and discussion, I'm proud to announce that the
groups Delaware Asian Culture Enthusiasts (DACE), The DAF Go League and DAF After Dark are now
united under the name Delaware Asian Culture Enthusiasts (or DACE for
short.)
We'll be operating under this new title from hence forth; DAF will,
however, keep it's original name for the sake of notoriety (not to mention a
shorter URL.)
Incidentally, rather than being referred to as "DAF'ers" or "DACE'ers" the
members of the club have lovingly adopted the nickname "Deltaku" (from
another club title that was beaten out.)
Why was the club created?:
Please refer to our club history page located at
http://www.delawareanimefans.com/history.html
Where is DACE located?:
Physically, we used to meet in Claymont, Delaware at the Rogue's Den. Now we meet at various public libraries throughout DE. The club is available online worldwide.
Who can join DACE?:
Anyone can join DACE regardless of race, gender, religion etc? We?re open to anyone who is interested in learning more about what we have to offer and, or, just looking to have some fun. There are occasionally age restrictions, but that is to follow the age recommendations for our viewings. More information about this is listed bellow.
Do you have meetings and if so, what kind of stuff gets played?:
We typically meet up twice a month on the third lower level at the Rogue?s Den. The first Saturday of the month is dedicated to marathons; the third Saturday is our monthly meeting where we preview whatever is new or has been requested by fellow members.
Why was I turned away from a meeting?:
For the most part, the only time you?ll be turned away from a meeting is due to your age. While we realize that children today are exposed to various things at different ages, we at DACE adhere to the age recommendations for anything we offer. Parental consent forms are available upon request and will be kept on file for anyone who has signed permission from their legal guardian.
My parent/guardian filled out a consent form, but I was still turned away. Why?:
Even with a parental consent form there are still times when we will refuse viewing privileges due to content. We withhold the right to due so on anything rated 17 and higher.
Is there a cost for the viewings?:
We do not charge for our viewings, but we do have various fundraisers to help pay for the various advertisements, prizes and other things needed to make our club what it is. Donations are always welcome, but charging for a public viewing is unlawful.
Why should I donate to the club and where does my money go?:
As mentioned above, donation money goes right back into the club to pay for the advertisements, raffle items, fund events and to make contributions to the local libraries for letting us use their space and electricity.
How are viewings selected?:
DACE is involved with multiple companies (ADV Advocates, Operation Anime and Central Park Media's Anime University to name a few). We are provided with anime preview discs, first installments to series as well as the vast collection shared between all our members. Viewings are selected on a first come first serve basis and are then run past the members before being placed on a waiting list. Occasionally, there are exceptions to this rule and we will throw in something if it's a must see.
I brought DVDs? Why weren't they showed at the meeting?
We are sponsored through various companies, part of our sponsorship is that we show what they send us and return the surveys that accompany them. Requests are played afterwards, but may require some time, as there is a waiting list. Be patient, it will get played
Sometimes things on the play list aren't shown at the meetings, why?
As mentioned above, our sponsors get top priority and sometimes they run longer than usual, not allowing us to play other things. Conversely, sometimes our sponsor?s DVDs don't get shipped on time, in those cases we will show more things from the request list.
What is not allowed at DACE?:
DACE does not support modifications, unauthorized subtitling (fan-subs), bootlegs, downloads or any other non-licensed titles whether it be an anime, video game or live action cinema. In addition, adult profiles are not allowed into the online group as a precaution to help protect our younger members. Basically, if it could possibly cause you to question whether it's allowed or not, please contact the administrator or the President.
Why can't we bring bootlegs & modified game/systems?:
First and foremost, it's illegal. Whether it's licensed in the US or not there are these little things called international copyright laws. This includes fan subtitling (fansubbing). Some people argue that it is legal as long as you're not profiting from the distribution, but even so, we in DACE feel that it's morally wrong to take part in this. In regards to modified game systems, emulators etc., the same applies. Just because you can find it on the internet doesn't make it legal. In addition, ignorance is not an excuse that holds up well in court.
If we allowed such things, the club as a whole could be held responsible, resulting in the loss of our sponsorships, to say the least. As mentioned above, legal action can be taken against us as a group as well as individuals. We ask that you not jeopardize our club or yourself by participating in these actions.

Are you associated with any other clubs?:
Currently, we are not associated with any
other clubs in and around Delaware. DACE is an independant community club. We do, however do joint events with other clubs. In additon, we have a
club link exchange. If you're interested in doing joint events, please email the DACE Staff at admin@delawareanimefans.com.
What do I do if someone from another club is harassing me?:
If for some reason some non-club member begins to harass you or the club, please report it to the club representative as soon as possible! Make sure you E-Mail the representative a copy of the insult and state when/where it happened and (if possible) who and what club. The club representative will be negotiating the dispute between members through the club's presidents. But all because you can report them, doesn't mean they can't report you! The club representative is here to make sure everyone plays nice and share. Any further inquiries about this, please the Club Rep/Public Relations at
admin@delawareanimefans.com or refer to the
DACE Club Relations Act.
I keep getting invited to join DACE. How do I stop it?:
DACE welcomes everyone in and around the state of DE to join our anime club. If we think you might be interested, we extend an invitation to join our club. Sometimes, people don't wish to join. If you wish to not receive invites to join DACE, please email
admin@delawareanimefans.com with your name, yahoo screen name, email address and reason and we will put you on our 'Do Not Invite' list. Ignoring the invites will not let us know that you do not wish to join. For all we know, maybe you just didn't get the mail. So if you do now wish to join and get future invites, please let us know. Thanks
